DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:


This position requires the teaching of Art courses at all levels of photography, including silver-based photography, digital photography, and the history of photography. Courses in the art program are taught both days and evenings. Additional responsibilities will include advising students, overseeing the photography facilities, and contributing to staff and curriculum development.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:


Masters of Fine Arts degree in photography; knowledge and experience in fine art and photography; black and white, color, and alternative processes; digital photography, Photoshop, Lightroom, and inkjet and other digital printing processes; regional and national exhibition records.


QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:


Knowledge of color management, digital asset management (DAM), non-silver processes, web-based imaging, commercial photography, portraiture, and photographic business practices, along with three (3) years teaching experience at the college level.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:


This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position. Salary placement is commensurate with education and experience. The minimum 2009-2010 nine-month base salary ranges from $44,005 with a master's degree to $57,240 with a doctorate in the subject field. The 2010-2011 salary schedule has yet to be determined. Optional contract for the summer session offers potential for significantly greater earnings. Because health insurance participation is mandatory for new faculty and health insurance premiums are deducted from the base salary, each new faculty member receives a flexible compensation allowance of $5,700 per academic year in addition to the base salary. The amount of compensation allowance for 2010-2011 has yet to be determined. This amount is intended to defray the cost of single medical insurance coverage. Faculty may be assigned to campuses other than Grayslake.


THE COLLEGE:


The College of Lake County is a large diverse district serving the third largest population in the Illinois community college system with 713,000 residents. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association, the college has a diverse student body of nearly 18,000 students. The college spans 442 square miles of Lake County with 75 inland lakes and is located halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee. The college is known for its excellent programs, services, and participation in community problem-solving efforts.


The college has three campuses: Grayslake (the largest), the Lakeshore campus in Waukegan and the Southlake campus in Vernon Hills. Providing a wide range of educational choices, the college offers five associate degrees to prepare students for baccalaureate completion and over 170 career program associate degrees and certificates that lead to direct employability. The college also offers programming in adult and continuing education, business and industry services and community outreach. Classes are offered in an online format and in a number of traditional formats.
