TENURE-TRACK FACULTY IN FILM & VIDEO

Production Design - POS 1132

Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution of over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students emphasizing arts, media, and communications in a liberal arts setting. The Film & Video Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure track, faculty appointment in Production Design. The successful candidate will be an experienced Production Designer with proven abilities as an educator. The candidate will teach Production Design related concepts and courses across the Film & Video Department, from entry-level Foundation courses through advanced classes in specialized areas of interest. The Film & Video curriculum addresses a variety of filmmaking modes and methods, from narrative and documentary through experimental, so the ability to guide students in collaborative, content-defined ways of making films is important. Our program fully integrates analysis and practice, and candidates who can contribute across history, analysis and production will be preferred. Additional responsibilities include advising students; serving on college-wide and Film & Video Departmental committees; participating in student registration; creating curriculum; assisting and mentoring part-time faculty, and assisting with the Film Department Production Fund and student Independent Projects.

A terminal degree and/or a distinguished record of professional achievement are required. Applicants should have extensive experience as a professional Production Designer and be able to demonstrate the ability to teach filmmaking to undergraduate and graduate students at all year levels. Because our emphasis is on modeling professional art and industry practices, all faculty members are expected to support the creation of student work that is festival and distribution ready. It is also important that candidates are knowledgeable about the collaboration between Production Designer, Director and Cinematographer through which the visual feel and specific aesthetic needs of the project are established and realized. Candidates must advance an emerging Production Design curriculum that will train students in both design and related art department fields such as set construction, props, hair and make-up, special effects and locations to establish a unified visual appearance to a film. While it is expected the successful candidate will be engaged in and actively working on his or her own creative projects, teaching and participation in academic planning, curricular development and management are central to the position.

Columbia College Chicago encourages qualified female, LGBTQ, disabled, international, and minority classified individuals to apply for all positions.
