National-Louis University is a multi-purpose, not-for-profit university that annually serves more than 13,000 students. Founded in 1886 and dedicated to a progressive philosophy of education and social justice, the University also includes the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Management and Business. National-Louis University has five Chicago area campuses in downtown Chicago, North Shore (Skokie), Lisle, Wheeling and Elgin; sites in Florida and Wisconsin. The College has six strategic themes: Academic Excellence, Partnerships Assessment, Technology, Diversity and Improved Processes.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction includes the Math Education Program and the Curriculum and Instruction Program with concentrations in ESL-Bilingual Education, Science Education, Social Studies Education, Health Education, School Nurse Education, and a Personalized Option. There are 19 full-time faculty members in the department. The department offers undergraduate and graduate courses and faculty members are very involved in field sites through research, grants, and professional development. The faculty is seeking a colleague who will share their commitment to collaborative teaching, research and service as we attempt to meet the needs of our partners in the schools and the children they teach. A commitment to celebrating the rich diversity of the Chicago urban area and to discovering new ways to improve the learning for all children is essential.
The Chairperson of the department is responsible for working with a highly talented group of faculty members in the implementation of the academic programs listed above. This includes curricular initiation and review, the hiring of all full and adjunct faculty members, strategic planning, budget development and monitoring, faculty and staff performance review, accreditation report development, implementation of assessment systems, and participation on the department chairs committee and the dean's team. The faculty is eager to find an individual who will eagerly pursue new and creative approaches to teacher education in today's world.
We are seeking a colleague with an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field, and full-time teaching experience in higher education. The candidate should demonstrate knowledge of standards-based assessment, a plan for active scholarship and research, a commitment to diversity and the use of technology to enhance student learning. Teaching experience in diverse K-12 educational settings is a valuable asset.
