I am a US licensed attorney who is currently working for a firm with offices in the Greater Toronto Area. I will be practicing US immigration law within the firm I am currently working for. My practice will mostly involve Canadian companies looking to do business in the US, already doing business in the US, and US companies looking to hire Canadian employees. Furthermore, my practice will be mostly visa based, and will not involve attending immigration hearings.
I am looking for an immigration attorney who I can periodically address questions to, and who can occasionally review my work. This set up would likely only go on during the beginning stages of my practice, until I am familiar, confident, and comfortable with the areas of immigration law I intend to focus on.
The lawyer who advises me would take a percentage of the fees that I charge for each case they help me on. My rate is $200/hr., though I would charge flat fees for various common visas. I am thinking 25% per case I am assisted on.
I have studied immigration law, and I have practiced immigration law as a law clerk throughout law school, so I am not in the dark when it comes to this area of practice. I just want to make sure I have someone in the background who I can bounce questions off of, or, in certain situations, review my work.
I don't intend for the person advising me to spend a great deal of time communicating with me, but rather just periodic, brief communications to clear up a point of confusion I may run into, confirm that I am/am not on the right track, or to make sure I completed a task correctly. The interactions really should be brief and periodic phone calls/emails where the attorney would answer a quick question that, based on their experience, they already have the answer to.
If you would be interested in this sort of set up please let me know. Thanks!
