Description
Bella is a super-sweet, three-year old (DOB: 6/28/06), purebred Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She weighs 34 lbs. and is just under 15 in height. When her owner sought to give her away, IDR+ agreed to take her in and find the forever home deserving of such a wonderful dog. If you are not familiar withthis breed, it is because true Staffordshire Bull Terriers are rare in the U.S. They are however, a very common breed in the U.K., where they are affectionately referred to as "the nanny's dog". Too often on the internet, we see American Pit Bull Terriers and mixes thereof mistakenly labeled Staffordshire Bull Terriers, but they are not the same breed. In Bella's previous home, she lived with grade school-age children and a male Pit Bull Terrier. True to her Stafford nature, she is happy, full of kisses, and every person she meets is her new best friend with (YEAAHHH!!!) a fresh lap to flop into. After slow, supervised introductions in her foster home, she has proven to be very compatible with different types and sizes of dogs but she is by no means a dog park type of dog. And she cannot live with cats. When Bella came to us in May, she had what seemed to be a longstanding, untreated urinary tract infection. Sadly, her original owner chose to part with her rather than take her to the vet to see if there was a problem. After thorough testing and a switch to prescription kidney-diet dog food, she has remained symptom-free with no other problems. This prescription food will most likely need to be her permanent diet, but it is not that expensive for a dog of her small size. Please note: Bella requires a home with a fenced yard; no exceptions. We are also requiring an adoptive home that is within a three-hour radius of Naperville, IL.
