We are an English Bulldog rescue in the state of Illinois recognized by the Bulldog Club of America and the Bulldog Club of America Rescue Network. What that means for adopters, surrendering families and shelters is that our bullies get the highest level of care and commitment. They spend their time with us in foster homes where they get daily love and attention. No cages, no institutions. We are an Illinois licensed shelter and a 501c3 charitable organization. The care we provide our English bulldogs includes a high quality diet, the best veterinary care from a bulldog specialist, and behavioral of the highest quality. Each of our rescued bullies typically cost CEBR more in care, than the adoption fees we collect on average $536 per bully. We serve Chicago-proper and the surrounding suburbs, Illinois, Northwest Indiana, Southeastern Wisconsin including Milwaukee and now take intakes from Ohio and Missouri. My name is Bella and Im a young 18 month old bully waiting to find the right home to love me, but I have to heal first. Im about 45 pounds, and up-to-date on my vaccines. I came to CEBR with a terrible spinal condition where I would lose control of my back legs and often would be incontinent. My prior family knew they couldnt afford the surgery, so they did the right thing and asked CEBR to take me in and help fix the problem and find me a new home. I had to undergo a long and painful surgery to correct a serious problem on my spine. I was born with a cyst on my spine and at first, I was like any other normal puppy. But as I grew, I had trouble walking and became more and more incontinent It was determined that if nothing was done soon, I would be paralyzed in no time. As soon as CEBR picked up me up they took me straight to the specialist. I was in surgery within hours to save me from a life of paralysis or worse. Most of the cyst was removed in the operation and the doctors are very hopeful that I will recover most of the feeling in my rear legs and be able to walk like a normal dog. Right now, Im pretty sore in my recovery, but I am going to head to rehab next week to start taking the next steps to see if we can get my muscle control and incontinence under control. Im optimistic but scared too. This is going to be hard and painful, but I have a chance at life now! While Im not exactly feeling well, I still have great manners and I am sweet and friendly to everyone who comes to visit me. Okay, Im not thrilled to be in pain, but I dont take it out on anybody and Id like to think that says a lot about my character. Just imagine how wonderful Ill be when I feel good again and can run and play like the other dogs. Im not quite ready to be adopted yet, but CEBR will post updates on my progress and hopefully within a few weeks, I can come home with you!
