Let me tell you a little bit about Kiwi. She is a 2 year old Iris Lorikeet. If you're not familiar with Lorikeets -they require special care. They do have a specialized diet. NO SEEDS NO PELLETS. Kiwi eats nectar, which is made from a powder. It's not very expensive and she gets it once a day. You mix it 5 parts water to 1 part powder. But she also eats a LOT of fresh foods. I actually make a puree and freeze it in an ice cube tray for easy feeding. I put in ALL sorts of food stuff.... papaya, peppers, blackberries, cantaloupe, squash, sweet potatoes. Then I thaw it out and let her eat that in the evening. That's a requirement in their diet. Kiwi gets apples and pears as treats and LOVES blackberries. Fresh foods (or pureed) needs to be a staple. That's probably the hardest part. But once you get a routine it's not a problem. I actually find it easier because you don't have a huge seed mess to deal with. I lay newspaper on top of her grate and just clean that out every day or every other day and taadaaa!!! 1 bag of nectar food usually lasts a few months because all you need is one scoop a day! I buy whatever fresh foods are on sale and just blend them up! She'll eat ANYTHING in puree form! She needs no nuts, pellets, seed, millet, so I think long term.. it's cheaper :) Another thing I need to tell you about is Lorikeet poop is different than regular bird poop. Better in some ways, worse in others. It's very runny because of the amount of fresh foods they eat. I put down newspaper on her grate and change that daily to make the great less messy. The upside to it... is that it's not "cement poop" like other birds. If it gets on the floor or her cage, it comes off SUPER easy. I have baby wipes (non scented) that I use every few days! It's super easy! The cage she's coming with is an 18x18 cage with a playtop on it. It's a nice cage! You would also get all her favorite toys, perches, swings. She loves this one patio perch!! You'd also get all her food cups. I even have a travel cage for her. Her rehoming fee is $200 with all her supplies or $125 if you don't need the cage. She was rehomed to me from a woman who lied to me. She told me she was rehoming her because she didn't have time for her anymore. I was wondering why after the "honeymoon period" she started resenting me and biting... but then I found out that Kiwi was bonded to the woman's husband. It suddenly made sense why she didn't want to bond to me. I know she has SO much potential.. I just want her to find the right person for her. But anyway- if you have a any questions let me know! I have pictures and videos of her talking and doing her trick training. She's quite the character!
