Westie Rescue of Missouri
Ok Toby isn't a westie but is in serious need of help anyways...from his devastated foster mom I wanted to share with you this rough situation. My 1 1/2 year old foster bichon, Toby, somehow simply by jumping up on the couch last night, injured ...his back and as a result, his back legs are currently paralyzed. We had no idea the extent of his injuries until this morning. After he attempted to jump onto the couch, something he's done many, many times already, he fell back and yelped. He later was showing signs of being in pain, but we thought he maybe pulled a muscle or something. He was still walking around last night after this happened. This morning I woke up to him crawling towards me dragging his back legs. I got him into my regular vet right away who did some X-rays, gave him some morphine and a cortizone shot and then sent me on to one of the emergency vets. They confirmed that Toby is indeed paralyzed in his back legs and given the diagnostic tests they ran said that without surgery or a miracle, he would never walk again. Toby is only 1 1/2 years old! He is there now undergoing a test where they inject fluid into the spinal cord to see where the injury is in preparation for surgery. The total vet bill is going to run between $2,800 and $3,500. So yet again we are begging to help yet another sweet kid that needs a chance at a great life.
