High Level Job Description:

Responsible for general support activities in a testing laboratory, including ordering of chemicals and supplies, sample receipt, small equipment maintenance and calibration (balance weight checks, spectrophotometer checks) and various administrative support duties. Will assist in routine sweeps of the lab to ensure compliance with safety regulations. 2 - 4 years of experience.


Job Description:

Job title is: Microbiology Support Technician.


Candidates must live within 25 miles of Barrington, IL. 30 hrs/week. Potential for 40 hrs/week if the candidate meets expectations.


The Microbiology Support Technician provides technical assistance to the R&D Microbiology Dept to facilitate the most efficient use of resources and time. The successful candidate will have a solid technical understanding of microbiology and the hands-on laboratory skills required to provide effective support. A strong work ethic, attention to detail/precision and the ability to work harmoniously with a team of R&D microbiologists are also required.

Specific responsibilities may include:

1) preparation of high-quality microbiological media and reagents.

2) Lab quality systems documentation support.

3) Skilled support to enable R&D project teams to efficiently carry out experiments (eg, labeling of test products, samples, test tubes and/or plates; assisting with analyses; recording or analyzing data; autoclaving spent bio-materials, etc.).

4) Technical support for the analysis of R&D consumer test samples (beverages and foods) and maintenance of the Food and Beverage culture collection.

Minimum Requirements:

X B.S. degree (or Associates degree) in Microbiology, Biology, Cell Biology or Food Science.

X Two years of work experience, of which at least 1 year must be in a laboratory setting (references required).

X Strong verbal and written communications skills.
