Summary:

Maintains, integrates and develops applications to support the business objectives of a financial services company. The position also requires a deep knowledge of data management strategies. This would include using Middleware or other technologies to support reporting and application integration efforts. Programming duties would include the modification and design of interfaces between applications as well as the creation of custom applications for the business when appropriate. Skills related to requirements analysis and full cycle project management as well as off the shelf product evaluation are important. Good communications skills and a strong knowledge of Back Office operations related to the securities industry are also important. May lead and direct the work of others as well as gather project specifications and conduct project presentations to business users. Harris Associates L P is a top tier global investment management firm with 24 hours x 6 day trading operations. Therefore this position involves participation in evening support rotations.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Develops automated solutions using documented requirements, prepared specifications.

- Manages systems design, coding, testing, debugging, and development of supporting documentation.

- Participates in systems evaluations and the recommendation of final solutions. At times may lead this process.

- Manages assigned project work by tracking activity, identifying problems and providing progress reports to his or her manager.

- Develops test plans and performs quality assurance testing.

- Responsible for assisting with the daily maintenance and support of accounting, trading, client management and research applications etc.

- Participates in off hours support rotations as required by 24 hr worldwide trading operations

- Over time handles assignments of increasing complexity and professional challenge.

- Assists with the training of other developers as needed.

- Will be assigned lead/supervisory duties on selected projects.

- Will be responsible at times for database and application design. This includes working with and at times directing other team members in the development of departmental standards and best practices related to application design, support and overall data management.

- Participates in periodic disaster recovery testing.

- Perform other duties as directed and may assume team lead/training responsibilities in areas of expertise.

Qualifications:

Required:

- 4-year degree in Computer Science or related discipline.

- 3-4 years previous financial industry experience

- Minimum 5 years experience with programming, database and systems design \ integration work.

- Strong knowledge of database management software, design specifications and programming tools in a predominantly Microsoft environment (MS SQL, .NET, Visual Source Safe, etc.).

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and writing skills. Detail oriented.

- Proven ability to effectively work with team members and business users.

- Experience working with general application support and trouble shooting.

- Proven experience managing small and medium sized projects independently and successfully.

- Strong desire to work in a financial services environment, particularly trading and trading operations related.



Preferred:

- Microsoft certifications

- Experience with mutual fund accounting system support (Advent, Eagle, Portia, Simcorp, etc.)

- Experience with trading system support (ITG/XIP, Charles River, Landmark, Moxy, Eze Castle, etc.)

- Experience working with performance measurement systems such as Factset, Barra, Wilshire, etc.

- Experience working on disaster recovery projects.

- Experience programming automating interfaces to data sources such as Bloomberg or Factset.

Special Requirements:

This position requires a self-directed professional who is eager to develop technical skills related to financial services and Back Office trading operations. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required for systems implementations and upgrades.
