We are currently searching for a professional to join our team and fill the role of Financial Analyst in Chicago, IL.
The Financial Analyst conducts financial analyses and provides advice and consultation within the Accounting Department by performing the following duties personally or through supervising teams.
The Financial Analyst assists in the analysis of financial data and extracts and defines relevant information, interprets data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability. He/she performs statistical, cost, and financial analyses of data reported in the various information systems, and prepares reports that summarize and forecast business activity and financial position based on past, present, and expected operations. The Financial Analyst is responsible for developing financial reports, including spreadsheets, graphs, and charts, for forecasting, trending, budget to actual comparisons, and results analysis. He/she performs monthly account analyses and reviews costs and performs cost benefit analysis related to projects and/or programs, and acts as project manager for large-scale projects within the Accounting Department, including but not limited to automated financial systems, business process re-design, and policy and procedure manual revisions. The Financial Analyst is expected to apply knowledge of applicable grant requirements and regulations, and verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government agencies. He/she establishes, or recommends to management, major corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies, and recommends modifications to existing corporate programs. Additionally, the Financial Analyst assists in preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification, as well as in the preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies.
A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or economics is required (CPA and/or Master's degree preferred) along with a minimum of eight years of related experience and/or training, with five of those years being in governmental or not-for-profit accounting. A successful candidate must be able to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations, general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Proficiency with Great Plains, Microsoft Access, Excel, Power Point, Word, Internet Explorer is required, Financial Edge experience is preferred.
